Pricing Credit Support for a Standby Letter of Credit
The cost of arranging third-party support for a standby letter of credit depends primarily on the face value, required validity, applicant, beneficiary, underlying commercial transaction and the collateral or credit capacity supporting the structure.
Financely's standard commercial model for qualified transactions currently uses an annual collateral or guarantee support fee of 6.25% of the committed face value, together with a fixed Financely engagement fee based on transaction size.
The structure is available through Financely's collateral leasing and guarantee support service for qualified commercial transactions requiring third-party collateral, an SBLC, documentary letter of credit, bank guarantee or related credit support.
How Much Does It Cost to Lease an SBLC?
For Financely's current standard structure, the support fee is calculated at 6.25% per annum on the committed SBLC face value.
A US$10 million requirement with a 12-month support period therefore carries an indicative annual support fee of US$625,000. A six-month requirement at the same face value would have an indicative support fee of US$312,500 when calculated pro rata.
Face value × 6.25% × support period
Example: US$10,000,000 × 6.25% × 6/12 = US$312,500.
The support fee is calculated against the committed face value. It is not calculated only against amounts subsequently drawn under a loan or commercial facility supported by the instrument.
Current Financely Engagement Fees
Financely charges a fixed engagement fee in addition to the collateral or guarantee support fee. The engagement fee covers transaction review, structuring, provider or issuer pathway coordination, commercial documentation and execution support.
| Face Value | Financely Engagement Fee | Annual Support Rate |
|---|---|---|
| US$1M – US$5M | US$25,000 | 6.25% |
| Over US$5M – US$10M | US$50,000 | 6.25% |
| Over US$10M – US$25M | US$75,000 | 6.25% |
| Over US$25M – US$50M | US$100,000 | 6.25% |
| Over US$50M – US$100M | US$150,000 | 6.25% |
| Above US$100M | US$250,000 | 6.25% |

Short-Term SBLC Support
An SBLC support arrangement does not necessarily require a full 12-month premium.
The 6.25% rate is annualized and can be estimated pro rata for the required validity. For import and export transactions, the support period may correspond to a single trading cycle. Certain short-duration IMPEX transactions can therefore require substantially less premium than a 12-month structure.
The final period must still make sense for the beneficiary, issuing pathway, underlying commercial obligation and reimbursement structure.
Monthly and Quarterly Payments
The annual support fee can be billed monthly or quarterly under the final transaction documentation.
On a US$10 million face value, a 6.25% annual rate represents US$625,000 per year, equivalent to approximately US$52,083 per month before any other transaction costs.
The first premium is ordinarily due at the end of the first completed monthly or quarterly billing period under the agreed structure.
What the Engagement Fee Covers
- initial transaction assessment;
- applicant and beneficiary review;
- analysis of the underlying commercial use;
- collateral or guarantee structure;
- provider, issuer or banking-pathway coordination;
- commercial term coordination;
- instrument wording coordination;
- KYC, AML and sanctions workflow coordination; and
- execution support through the agreed mandate.
Costs Outside the Leasing Rate
The headline support rate should not be confused with the complete cost of executing the transaction.
Depending on the structure, separate costs can include:
- issuing-bank charges;
- advising or confirmation fees;
- SWIFT and correspondent-bank costs;
- external legal counsel;
- collateral valuations or appraisals;
- security perfection;
- collateral-management costs;
- trustee fees;
- insurance;
- taxes and stamp duties; and
- other regulated third-party execution costs.
These expenses depend on the instrument, jurisdiction, bank, collateral and transaction structure and are quoted separately where applicable.
What “SBLC Leasing” Actually Means
The market commonly uses the term “SBLC leasing” to describe arrangements where a company requires third-party collateral or credit capacity to support an SBLC requirement.
An executable transaction still requires a real applicant, identifiable beneficiary, legitimate commercial purpose, acceptable collateral or reimbursement structure and a bank or credit-support provider prepared to approve the transaction.
Financely provides the advisory, structuring and execution work associated with these arrangements. The relevant bank or third-party provider makes its own underwriting, issuance and approval decisions.
What Determines Whether an SBLC Can Be Arranged?

How much does it cost to lease an SBLC?
Financely's current standard support rate is 6.25% per annum of the committed face value, plus a fixed engagement fee based on the size of the transaction. The annual support fee can be estimated pro rata where the required validity is shorter than one year.
What is the minimum SBLC face value?
The standard minimum face value under Financely's current collateral and guarantee support model is US$1 million.
Do I have to pay the entire 6.25% upfront?
The standard support premium can be paid monthly or quarterly under the final documentation. The engagement fee is separate from the recurring support premium.
Can an SBLC be arranged for less than 12 months?
Yes. The support period can correspond to the actual commercial requirement. For certain import and export transactions, this may be a single short trading cycle. The annual support rate is estimated pro rata for the agreed validity.
Are bank charges included in the SBLC leasing rate?
External bank issuance, advising, confirmation, SWIFT, legal, valuation, collateral-perfection, trustee, insurance and tax costs are separate unless specifically included in the final transaction documentation.
What is the Financely engagement fee?
The fixed engagement fee starts at US$25,000 for requirements between US$1 million and US$5 million and increases with the face value. It covers the professional work required to review, structure and coordinate the transaction.
Does Financely issue the standby letter of credit?
Financely provides advisory, structuring and execution coordination. The actual SBLC or related guarantee is issued or supported by the relevant bank, collateral provider, guarantor or other accepted third-party institution following its own underwriting.
Does paying the engagement fee guarantee issuance?
No. Issuance and beneficiary acceptance remain subject to underwriting, compliance, documentation, collateral, credit approval and the requirements of the relevant third parties.
Can a leased SBLC automatically be monetized?
No. Any lender considering an SBLC as credit support makes an independent decision regarding acceptability, lending value, collateral treatment and financing terms.
