## Mombak Reaches First Close on Its Second Amazon Reforestation Fund

Brazilian carbon removal company [Mombak](https://mombak.com/?ref=blog.financely.io) has reached the first close of the Amazon Reforestation Fund II. The vehicle is targeting up to $150 million to restore degraded land in the Brazilian Amazon.

The announcement also includes approval for a roughly $40 million credit line from Brazil’s development bank BNDES and a multiyear agreement for Salesforce to purchase future carbon removal credits. Mombak disclosed the milestones during New York Climate Week, and [Reuters reported the transaction details](https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/brazils-mombak-raises-new-fund-adds-salesforce-carbon-credit-buyer-2026-09-21/?ref=blog.financely.io).

### Capital for restoration at scale

Fund II follows Mombak’s first $120 million reforestation fund. According to Reuters, that vehicle has supported planting nearly 15 million native trees across 15 Amazon farms. The new fund’s $150 million figure is a fundraising target; Mombak has announced a first close, not a final close at that amount.

The financing structure brings together fund capital, an approved public credit line and contracted demand for future removals. Each serves a different purpose: investors supply capital for land and restoration work, credit can support deployment, and purchase agreements establish a route to revenue as verified carbon removals are delivered.

### Salesforce joins the buyer roster

Salesforce’s agreement adds another corporate buyer to Mombak’s carbon removal portfolio. For reforestation projects, advance purchase commitments matter because spending on land, planting and long-term monitoring begins well before credits can be issued and delivered. The agreement is a commercial milestone, though its value and contracted volume were not disclosed in the announcement.

Mombak deserves credit for putting together a second investment vehicle while expanding its buyer base. The next measure of Fund II will be how much capital it ultimately closes, how effectively it deploys that capital, and the verified removals its projects deliver over time.
